Popscicle sticks; one per each participant
Candy Thermometer
Heatproof gloves
Instructions
Advance Preparation
Place Rolling Desserts Ice Plate into freezer in flat position for 24 hours
Make Maple Syrup Taffy
Instructions for Maple Syrup Taffy
Place 2 cups of maple syrup into small heavy saucepan; clamp candy thermometer firmly on side
Bring to a boil; wearing heatproof gloves, stir constantly to avoid over flow, until 235F
Remove maple taffy from heat; sit until bubble settle; pour over cold surface in thin strips, winding around popscicle strips almost immediately to avoid taffy freezing first (just eat the frozen strip)
Instructions for Making Maple Syrup Taffy Pops with Rolling Dessert Ice Tray
Once Taffy has reached temperature, and bubbles are settling, remove Rolling Desserts plate from freezer; place securely on flat surface (a damp tea towel under ice plate will ensure it remains stable)
Pour 1/2 of hot maple syrup taffy batch over Rolling Desserts ice tray in 4 vertical strips: a little back and forth pouring might help to thicken strips
Immediately roll taffy around each stick to make Maple Taffy Pop; winding solidifying maple syrup candy around each stick
Be fast to avoid disappointment as syrup hardens quickly; repeat with remaining half of syrup
Once each strip is completely wound around stick; enjoy a Canadian pleasure!
Instructions for Making Maple Syrup Candy in the Snow
Gather clean snow onto flat baking sheet; pack it down a bit and add snow on top
Pour 1/2 batch hot maple syrup taffy over clean snowy surface in 4 vertical strips: a little back and forth pouring might help to thicken strips
Recipe Notes
Rolling Desserts Ice Tray will stay cold enough to make a couple batches of Maple Syrup Taffy Candy (or 4 cups of syrup) before needing another 12-24 hours in the freezer. Keep children away from hot taffy when pouring onto cold surface; it is safe temperature only after poured - then work fast!
