Originally this post was titled “Guess what this is?” and I was blown away by the ability of so many to immediately recognize it as a mushroom! Of course the other answers were much more fun! Lisa wins for the one that made me laugh the loudest and longest! No prize though. Next time, I will make sure I have a great prize as this was a bit of spur of the moment fun and answers came in through twitter, facebook, and here. The name of the mushroom is above and they apparently grow everywhere in this area at the end of summer (now) and into the fall.
My clues before were:
I will say only that I have never had it, not seen it before, but it smelled very familiar and so fragrant. I will also say it was absolutely delicious! No prizes, but let’s have a little fun and see who can guess what this is.

Honestly, I would never have had a clue what it was or that it was edible, but let me tell you this: it is worth getting off the couch and going for a walk in the woods! A local delicacy that will truly blow your socks off if you like mushrooms at all. There is a great source of information about them here.

my guess: Bear’s-head Tooth mushroom or Hericium Americanum
I think it is a cauliflower mushroom, similar to the one that was growing out at my cabin recently.
It definitely looks like some kind of mushroom but which one..?? No clue. I’ve never seen any like that before!
Jane kniws her mushrooms.Hericium, but I have never come across it. At the end of September I will be attending a mushroom festival in Salmon Arm so hope to try many different shrooms.
I’m going to go off the beaten path here and say my thighs under flourscent light.
