Thermomix TM5 vs Thermomix TM31 side by side on video
Thank you to Hannah from the Thermoments (Facebook Page) and “babe” for this video, and to Helene at SuperKitchenMachine.com for always having her finger on the pulse of all things Thermomix and posting this Thermomix TM5 vs Thermomix TM31 on video, today. This excellent comparison reiterates what I said Friday after the announcement was made:
Bottom Line: the new machine is not adding another component into the cooking abilities. The changes address the operating system of the machine.
I will add that I have everything apple. I love my ipad, my iphone, my macbook pro and my desk top computer. The integration is seamless and the technology we all know is state of the art and leap years ahead of what anyone else in the industry has accomplished. All that said, I have spent my fair share of time sitting at the Genius bar (brilliant service there) as this is digital technology. There are glitches. With apple, very few.
Now, Verwork will have their bases covered on this, no doubt, yet, I wonder about the repairs without a “Thermomix Genius Bar” in every city that is convenient to get to. This is yet, unforeseen – though I know the company would have tested their work, adnauseum.
In my 7 years of selling the TM31, I have NEVER had any customer (and I have sold hundreds and hundreds of machines) use the warranty. I have had only one customer need a new blade after 5 years and he was a Chef and used his machine multiple times daily in his restaurant. There was also one client who received the bubbly topped Varoma that was a manufactured defect – very rare – and that got replaced immediately. Nothing else. Ever.
So, all in all…. with this video comparing the Thermomix TM5 vs Thermomix TM31, what I know and what I don’t know, I believe Canada is in the best position at this time. We are phasing out the TM31 to hail in the almighty TM5 while watching the world that is already able to access the TM5 respond to its technology, compare it to the TM31 and if glitches are there, they will appear and new machines will be altered to avoid them before Canada launches the Thermomix TM5. It’s all good. And remember – my daughter is not expecting her baby until March of 2015. I bought her the TM31 now because of the incredible incentives. I could have waited for the new machine, but why? The TM31 is tried and true and with the incentives at this point, in my humble opinion, it was a no brainer.
And on we go!
Silvan says
What is the price of the thermomix TM31 now? Is it going to be the same as before plus the incentives? Or
Is is going to have a discount?. I think I like the TM31 better for now and would like to know the price

Hi Valarie
Wonder if you saw the controversy the secret release had in Australia?

Will the new Thermo be the same price as the TM31? I am not sure if I should wait for the TM5 or not but have some concerns with getting parts for the TM31 if need be. Do you know if they will discontinue parts for the TM31 once the TM5 is out?
I am planning to purchase one in a month or so time 🙂

I am from Malaysia. Kindly advise whether safe to buy from alibaba? Never has stock yet in Malaysia. Adverse review posted for this machine. BPA , error message, machine stop suddenly. Pls advise your view on this. Where to buy the original model online which is safe? Thanks
Valerie Lugonja says
HI, Yong
I would never buy a Thermomix machine from Alibaba. You need a demonstration and there are many consultants in Malaysia that you can buy from. An adverse review? That would be one in a million. If you do your research, you will find this machine will last a lifetime and customers are more than satisfied. One sells every 2 minutes somewhere in the world. But, you need to get a consultant, and a demonstration.

Dear Valerie,
Unfortunately I bought the Thermomix on impulse without realising I could have gotten it from a distributor n have it demoed. I receive a letter from Thermomix montreal in Sept 2014 about replcing both (I have 2 bowls) the rings due to safty issues. I have emailed them as per their request n havent received a reply. The months later they explained they cant reply to so man y emails (????) then few weeks ago said they sent out the rings plus the replacement cracked cap I got.. Its been 3 weeks from montreal to Woodstock, Ontario. Still nothing. Whom shall I contact re: this issue??? I am so frustrated and other than the first failure with the hollanfaise sauce I hve not used it.. still waiting for the parts that were so long in coming since Sept 2014 and the post sales service is non existent
Valerie Lugonja says
Dear Mary
I am so so sorry about your frustration and this unusual response to your Thermomix needs. I will help you with any assistance you need to learn how to use your machine, Mary, as a lover of it. I will help you succeed at your sauce. We can do a skype demonstration together.
Regarding the information about you not getting your lid and seals, please call Natalie at Nobelhaus. Don’t give up. Your distributor is not affiliated with mine. However, both are accountable to Vorwerk International in Germany, and I suggest that is where you forward your concerns and needs and am confident they will assist with getting you what you need.
My email is valerie@acanadianfoodie.com. Just remind me of this conversation and your need for a Hollandaise demonstration and whatever else you may need, and I will make an appointment with you.
Sincerely,
Valerie

Dear Valerie:
I am living in Sicily for another 6 months working at NAS Sigonella as a LDS Missionary. We will go home to Saratoga Springs, Utah in November. I intend to buy this machine soon. I can’t take shipment of it here in Sicily as we have to ship things home at our cost and it isn’t safe to ship from here as things get lost and broken. I could buy it and have it shipped around Novvenber first though. My question is when and which do I buy and why do I buy that model? Can I have an English speaking demonstration here in Motta Sant Anastasia? I love your honesty. the cost factor with the T31 would be a big benefit if they still will keep making the parts for many years because I live in the States. Do you have a representative in the Utah area? Thank you for answering my questions. I would be happy to buy from you. I am on FB too, so you can PM me or email me.

Hi Sherri
My daughter lives in Utah and I have bought a machine for her. I will send you an email.

Hi Valerie
It’s great reading the previous questions and replies as they’ve narrowed down most of the ones I wanted to ask. I’m new to the thermomix idea, only stumbling across it this week after radically changing my lifestyle in recent months. I’m living in Ireland and after googling stockists, only came across UK ones and two TM 31’s for sale second hand. I really only want to make a purchase once and get long term use out of it, I’ve got to factor ease ability of getting parts here in the future if they were needed, price and general use. Im not sure if the TM 31 or TM5 would be the best as I’ve not really fully got the spec comparison from someone who is use to using them. I’d appreciate your advice.
Many Thanks
Bernie

Hey Bernie
Do you use SKYPE. I am currently in Europe and would be glad to give you a call to discuss. It is a very personal matter for your to consider, but I can certainly provide you an abundance of information that will enable you to make your purchasing decision – and you most definitely should purchase. It will change your life and only for the better.

Trinka Whatley says
Hello Valerie,
I just today learned about the Thermomix product from a friend who sells doTERRA. She recently purchased one and was willing to show us a couple of the wonderful things this product can do. I would like to purchase one of these appliances. I have started doing my research on this product and came across this website. This is my dilemma. I am from the US and live here in Munich. I expect to be here for 2 to 3 more years. I am aware of the TM31 and TM5. From what I have read, it may not be worth spending the extra money on the newer model, seeing it doesn’t add any new features – aside from the chip and bigger bowl. Also, I don’t think I will be able to take this back to the States and use it because the power source is different. In reality, I may only be using this appliance for 2 – 3 years. If i buy a used one, will there be any customer support? How long does it take to understand and use the Thermomix? Are there resources online for recipes in English?
Please advise.
Best regards,
Trinka

I live in the U.S. and my girlfriend has one of these fabulous machines! She has the TM31 model which she purchased in Germany where her husband had been stationed. She brought hers home with her and uses and adapter to all her to use it in the States. She did a demo for us and needless to say I’d like to purchase one! Can you guide me as to where I can purchase one and will I need as adapter for it. I really wasn’t to purchase this machine! Any assistance you can give me would be great!
Thanks,
Trudy

Hi Trudy,
I have one TM31 in France and want to use it in the U.S. too. Wich adapter your girlfriend is using? Does the machine work properly with the different power?
Thank you for your help.
Valerie Lugonja says
Hi Aurelie,
Using an adapter with drastically shorten the lifespan of your machine.
Sincerely
Valerie
Trudy Balsamel says
Hi Aurelie,
I don’t know which adapter she uses but I imagine that the are pretty standard to get so it should not be problem for you to get. My girlfriend has not had any problems using her TM31 with her adapter and she uses her device pretty much on a daily basis.
As an alternative you can have the proper circuit with the appropriate plug installed and use your Thermomix with no worries.
Also the Thermomix is sold in the US now if you want to repurchase or upgrade your equipment if you don’t have the latest model.
Finally, if you are coming from Canada or Mexico, you don’t need an adapter as these countries use the same electrical circuits.
I hope this helps.
Trudy

Can you still buy the TM 31?

HI Peter,
Sorry for the tardy response. No. Only second hand if you are lucky.

prana says
Well, I bought 3 TM31s last year, 2 were lightly used at my cafe and I have already had to use the warranty for 2 different TM31s – one of the blades broke (the metal part separated from the plastic base) and for one of them something broke in the main part of the machine and the blade no longer turns with any torsion (it whirrs but if there’s anything in the bowl it stops the turning of the blade). One has also had issues with increasing the temperature during cooking – takes 20 minutes to hit V. So… I guess maybe I am just very unlucky and all your customers are VERY lucky…
Valerie Lugonja says
Dear Prana
Who did you buy the machines from and where do you live?
I have been selling these machines for 10 years and have never heard of anything even close to your story… so it is very possible you are not using the machines properly. Were you educated on how to use them? I have been to many restaurants and seen them used, and also abused, so it is a fair ask. Even abused, they seem to stand up far more than I would expect. In France, I was in a cooking class for French macarons – and the chefs there rocked the machines and banged them while mixing the sugar and almond powder together. They still lasted them over 10 years… as I am in contact with them…
I am also sure you have read reviews on line and are aware that your situation is unique and I suggest the following:
1. Contact your Consultant for proper education
2. Educate your staff on proper use
3. Get the machines repaired by an authorized dealer asap (repair is not expensive)
4. Monitor the use and care of the machines by your staff
These machines are not designed for restaurant use. They are designed for at home use, but as they are built so well, many restaurants all over the world do buy and use them, effectively and successfully.
I am sad to hear of your situation and I hope you do get busy to resolve it as your have invested a considerable amount of money in these machines that should be saving and making you a lot of money.
Sincerely,
Valerie

Hi Valerie,
I have been eyeing the TM31 for 2 years since I saw one in Australia at a friends house.
I was so disappointed when I could not get my hands on one when I got home (LA) but was recently contacted by Vorweck and heared that they were finally releasing the TM5 in the USA by the end of this year. I love technology and gadgets but am leaning towards the tried and true TM31 and saw on the website they can still be purchased in Canada?
Would love to discuss with you.
Thanks!
Belen

Would you still recomend the T31 over the TM5 or even the new TM6? I see there haven’t been any comments on this post for some time. Thanks.
Valerie Lugonja says
Hi Jazmin,
Definitely not. I love my TM5. I would never want to go back to my TM31.
That is like asking me if I still prefer the old brick-sized cell phones over a new iphone. HAHA.
No comments on that post because it is OLD. I have written a recent one about the TM6.
🙂
Hope this helps!
